Team Uncool Likes: Guillotine by Lisa Jaffe. Performance Piece JHB

Im a big fan of fashion designer Lisa Jaffe's work and worked with her on one of her ranges years ago. To coincide with the launch of the new Creative Quarter, 70 Juta Street in Johannesburg, she put on a performance piece stylistically representing the process of dress making and its materials. The the project seems self explanatory once watching the video below and I was highly impressed.

here is some text from the 70 Juta Street blog explaining the project:

'Guillotine by Lisa Jaffe is a quiet phenomenon here in downtown Jo’burg. Sure, it sounds like blatant nepotism – she’s part of the family and all, but it’s true. There are really only a few designers who can marry fashion and philosophy without coming off all poncy. Her last collaborative project (Monotype) for the recent SA Fashion Week at neighbouring Jo’burg hotspot, Arts on Main, was a hot mess – turning the traditional ramp show on it’s head, it ended up being part performance, part installation, all critical acclaim. And that’s the way we like our anti-fashion.
Check out our Guillotine digi-pictorial after the jump. It’s also a good idea to watch our friend Chiara Frisone’s exclusive webisode for Monotype. You’ll find it here too.'

Go Johannesburg and go Lisa Jaffe, well done.
