Yesterday, history was made. The Honorable Judge Sonia Sotomayor was confirmed as the nation’s first Hispanic Supreme Court justice by a vote of 68 -31. U.S. President Barack Obama had this to say about this history-making event: “With this historic vote, the Senate has affirmed that Judge Sotomayor has the intellect, the temperament, the history, the integrity and the independence of mind to ably serve on our nation’s highest court.” Sotomayor, a Puerto Rican Brown Girl from the Bronx, will take office on August 8, 2009.
