These two extremes last night at the CFDA Awards- and everything from A to Z- good to bad in between. For me two women that did the two extremes to the ultimate were Tonne Goodman and Sarah Jessica Parker.

Vogue has done its own proud. The website VOGUE has Goodman's profile THE MINIMALIST available here, and a retrospective portfolio & an interview- Great stuff. The Eleanor Lambert Award went to Vogue's Tonne Goodman MARK HOLGATE writes eloquently about her "And if we were to hazard a guess as to why she has been given this accolade, it wouldn't just be about recognizing the thoughtful, soulful, and thoroughly American approach she brings to her work. Goodman also brings a consciousness to what she does; she sees fashion through the prism of her eco and ethical concerns. After all, when so much of your job is divining where fashion should be going next, it helps to know you're looking in the right direction."

Tonne Goodman looks fantastic-beyond.

Style.com's NICOLE PHELPS writes SJP "wore a long dress that Sarah Burton(Alexander McQueen's successor) handpicked for her to present a posthumous Board of Directors Special Tribute to Alexander McQueen."

It is much more interesting to look at something that is slightly imperfect, slightly askew - whether it be a room (MC would purposely pull her curtains off one or two hooks) or a face. And who else but the French would come up with a term for this? "Jolie-laide" or "pretty-ugly" is hard to define, and perhaps, like many French expressions, isn't meant to be.

"Mr. Worthington sent me the 1963 cover of Harper's Bazaar (top photo) which apparently caused quite a stir: "Only recently it occurred to me that there was an elaborate insider's joke going on~ Richard Avedon was channeling Diana Vreeland with this model's navy blue hair, makeup, cigarette holder (inside the magazine, the same model wore a snood). Then, Walter Winchell ran a squib which implied that the model was in fact not a real woman at all! It was never verified and has intrigued me ever since." (again from EEE)

Whether this be so- the resemblance is distinct- as are the gestures.
