a Pound's Worth

.

Beauty should never be presented explained. It is MARVEL & WONDER, & in Art we should find first these doors- Marvel & Wonder- and, coming thorough them, a slow understanding (slow even though it be a succession of lighting understandings & perceptions) as of a figure in mist, that still & ever gives to each one his own right of believing, each after his own creed & fashion. Always the desire to know & to understand more deeply must precede any reception of Beauty. Without holy curiosity & awe none find her, & woe to that artist whose work wears its "heart on its sleeve."

*Ezra Pound's alter ego introduced A Quinzaine for this Yule with this credo- his mother was a Weston, and paternal grandmother a Loomis.
